Delhi gets new green space along Yamuna

New Delhi: Delhi LG VK Saxena inaugurated Amrut Biodiversity Park on the eastern bank of the Yamuna on Friday. It is spread over 90 hectares, featuring six water bodies, 14,500 trees, and 18,000 shrubs. With this opening, Delhi residents have an opportunity to enjoy a green, fresh, and clean space. The park is packed with several facilities, such as walking paths, open lawns, and parking facilities, with plans to set up a cafeteria in the pipeline.

Speaking at the inauguration, LG Saxena shared how the park was transformed from a neglected and polluted area into a thriving green space. “This place was filthy, and we worked hard to bring it back to its natural form. The water bodies will fill up during floods, attracting birds and wildlife,” he said.

The park has been designed to manage storm water and decrease flood risks. During the monsoon, the natural depressions in the land will collect water, increasing water levels. All essential steps have been taken, such as stabilizing slopes with jute and planting grass to prevent erosion.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has plans to further develop the area. There are proposals to add sculptures to enhance the park’s beauty. “We are working on similar projects to provide more open spaces for people to relax and connect with nature,” LG Saxena added.

The National Botanical Research Institute has planted a large number of native and fruit-bearing trees, such as neem, peepal, mango, mahua, amla, and star fruit. These trees will help keep the environment fresh, and people can enjoy the park with their families and friends.

With the opening of Amrut Biodiversity Park, Delhiites now have a great opportunity to escape the city’s hustle and bustle and spend time in a calm, natural environment.
