Delhi govt imposes ban on firecrackers to mitigate air pollution
New Delhi: Before the arrival of winter, the Delhi government has been taking all precautionary measures to mitigate air pollution in the national capital. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has issued a notification on Monday to ban all kinds of fireworks ; it will continue till January 1, 2025. A complete ban will be imposed on firecracker manufacturing, storage, and sale, including online and offline.
The committee went on to say that the decision has been taken in view of the public interest to combat high air pollution in Delhi. High pollution levels lead to several diseases; senior citizens and children suffer most. The national capital always turns into a gas chamber during the winter.
The committee has instructed Delhi Police to make sure that ban means ban and there should not be any respite for anyone. DPCC has asked the Delhi cops to submit daily action reports.

However, the Supreme Court (SC) recently criticized the central as well as Punjab and Haryana governments for not taking proper action in tackling the air pollution. SC asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) why the air quality is so poor and also urged the Punjab and Haryana governments about their negligence for not taking proper action against farmers and stubble burning.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has been singing a different song, making it clear that the state needs money from the Centre and the Delhi government to pay for crop management machines because farmers’ don’t have enough money to invest in machines. The Haryana government went on to say that this year’s data on stubble burning is not available owing to recent state assembly elections.
