Delhi govt to ban all kinds of firecrackers till Jan 1 to combat pollution

New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai categorically said on Monday that a ban will be imposed on the production, sale, and use of all firecrackers, including green crackers, till January1, 2025. This decision is taken with the aim of controlling air pollution in the capital. The national capital faces high pollution levels during the winter due to the use of firecrackers.

Rai went on to say that, like previous year, a complete ban will take place in the production, storage, sale, and use of firecrackers to protect people in Delhi from pollution. The ban will continue on online sales and deliveries of any kind of firecracker, he stated.

The minister further added that people should celebrate Diwali by lighting lamps and sharing sweets with relatives, friends, and neighbours, but say no to fireworks. Delhi Police, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, and revenue department will shortly set up a joint action plan to strictly enforce the firecracker ban in Delhi. This ban will continue till January 1, next hear to bring relief to the people from the pollution caused by firecrackers.

Rai further added that the Delhi government doesn’t like to impose last-minute bans, which may be inconvenient for both the traders and the public. He said the government has been adamant to decrease the pollution levels in the national capital. The ban is a part of the 21-point ‘Winter Action Plan’ and urged people to support each other and work together as ‘pollution warriors’ to help in protecting the environment.
