Delhi NCR sees better air quality post-Diwali as winds disperse smog

New Delhi: Delhiites have not fully ignored the firecrackers banned by the Delhi government. Severe noise pollution and invisibility were experienced on Diwali night. Despite the unfavorable situation, the air quality of Delhi NCR has improved post-Diwali this year. Luckily, wind speed since Friday morning cleared all the smog, giving a sigh of relief to the residents of the national capital.

In fact, officials stated that to some extent success was achieved because many people obeyed the government’s order and remained aloof from the crackers. Therefore, the environment of the city is better as per the expectation. Teams deployed by the Delhi government to check the pollution levels visited many places; after that, they reported that the awareness initiative helped a lot. A huge number of people chose to celebrate Diwali with eco-friendly options such as light displays and avoided heavy firecrackers.

However, the air quality of Anand Vihar was recorded in the category of “very poor” with an AQI of 385 at 11am on November 1, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Anand Vihar saw the AQI plunge into the “severe” category on Thursday night while PM2.5 concentrations soared, creating hazardous conditions for respiratory health.

The AQI remained at a more moderate level in Faridabad, reflecting the efforts by the authorities to mitigate pollution during the festival of lights. The authorities and residents collaboration paid the dividends in keeping the pollution levels at bay to some extent, giving people a chance to think of a cleaner Diwali in the future.
