Delhi’s air quality drops to ‘very poor’

New Delhi: The air quality in Delhi once again worsened after a brief respite. It turns into the ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday (January 15). The AQI of several regions of the national capital recorded 344 at 8 am, as per the data received from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). It means the air quality deteriorated compared to Tuesday’s reading of 250, which is considered as ‘poor’.

However, the forecast of rainfall on January 15 and 16 has increased the hope of the betterment of air quality in the city. Meanwhile, dense fog has reduced the visibility in various regions of Delhi. Several trains are running late due to fog. Passengers have to face all kinds of difficulties in this cold weather.

Rain on Saturday improved the air quality of the city. Later the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) declared to lift restrictions under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The relaxation has allowed private construction and demolition activities. No online classes for students up to class 5; BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles have been allowed to run on Delhi roads.

The situation is still grim because the air quality frequently changes its color in Delhi. Therefore, measures under GRAP Stages I and II will continue to curb the pollution levels.
