Delhi’s air quality improves amid favourable weather conditions
New Delhi: Delhi residents have received a respite as the air quality in the national capital improved. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 180 as of 8 am on Thursday, considering a ‘moderate’ category. The change has occurred due to favourable weather conditions such as light showers, according to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the range of ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ categories in the last few weeks. The people of the city received the ‘moderate’ range for the first time this month. Experts and IMD forecasts had predicted this improvement in the air quality.

However, the AQI of the city is likely to deteriorate further on February 7 and 8. People have been facing the high pollution levels for the last four months. Numerous pollution-related diseases are increasing in Delhi and its adjoining regions. Citizens will have to visit hospitals for treatment such as respiratory and lung infections. Children and elderly people are badly affected.
The CAQM cancelled Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) after the declining trend in the AQI. AQI 350 is the borderline for the implementation of Stage-3 restrictions, according to the orders of the Supreme Court.
