Delhi’s air quality improves amid rain

New Delhi: A sigh of relief was experienced by the Delhi residents as Saturday’s evening rain brought happiness to the faces of the people of the city because of improvement in air quality and pollution levels. After continuously facing ‘poor’ or ‘severe’ air quality for more than a fortnight, at last rain has proved a boon for the Delhiites. Several areas of the national capital have recorded ‘moderate’ AQI on Monday morning.

With the improvement in pollution levels, the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday withdrew the Stage III restrictions under the anti-pollution Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR. Much-needed rain helped a lot in settling the dust and making the environment healthier.

However, despite the improvement in air quality, things are still not satisfactory. Therefore, Stage I and Stage II measures will continue as per the order of the officials. The Stage 3 was imposed on Thursday due to ‘severe’ air quality being revoked.

Annulling Grap Stage 3 means lifting the ban on demolition activities and private construction. Besides this, the hybrid mode of school up to class 5 will also be removed. BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers and non-essential BS-IV diesel-operated medium goods vehicles (MGVs) can now ply on Delhi roads.

The smog blanketing the city is over, and fog has also gone, so the visibility has also improved. People have enjoyed the holiday with ease.
