Delhi’s air quality worsens; several areas record AQI over 300

New Delhi: Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been deteriorating rapidly; several regions of the city experienced above 300 AQI on Saturday, creating a big issue for the people due to a surge in air pollution before the arrival of winter. In many places, such as Anand Vihar and Akshardham, the AQI touched 334, which comes in the ‘very poor’ category.

Smog was seen in many parts of Delhi this morning, with the air quality getting worse quickly over the past few days. In areas like India Gate (AQI 251), Nehru Park (AQI 209), ITO (AQI 226), Bhikaji Cama Place (AQI 273), and AIIMS (AQI 253), the air quality was in the ‘poor’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) began on October 15 due to the bad air quality. Measures like cleaning roads with water to reduce dust have started. Inspections are also going on construction sites and other places.

The AQI reached 292 at Wazirpur on Friday. Dust pollution in Delhi and nearby areas, along with easterly winds, is making the air quality poor. As per the predictions, stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana will add to the pollution over the weekend.

Delhiites have been facing several health issues; breathing, coughing, and other health difficulties are on the rise owing to rising pollution. Complaints are coming from the Akshardham area that pollution has been causing several problems like choking, breathing, and spreading irritation in the eyes.
