Delhi’s AQI continues to deteriorate
New Delhi: The air quality of Delhi has been continuously deteriorating with every passing day. Winter is about to arrive; it seems the national capital will change into a gas chamber again after Diwali. Delhiites experienced ‘very poor’ air quality on Wednesday morning; it is expected to worsen from here. AQI reached up to 349 today, while the situation in some areas like Anand Vihar and Jahangirpuri is in the ‘severe category’, AQI touched 400.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday criticized the central government for creating toothless environmental laws. The apex court added that the CAQM Act, which includes penalties being imposed on those who are burning stubble.

The temperature of Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 20.5 degrees Celsius; it is three degrees below the average for this time of year. The humidity level stood at 83% at 8 am.
Despite the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan Stage II (GRAP) by the Delhi government, the pollution level has not been decreasing. Its surging trend is continuing. However, the government has restricted the use of coal and firewood in hotels, restaurants, and diesel generators in the city.
Air Quality Index measures air quality on a daily basis. The aim of AQI is to inform the people and government about the air quality of the city and its impact on people’s health as well. Everyone should be cautious and take some steps, like remaining indoors, never going outside unnecessarily, checking the health of the family in case of emergency, rushing to the hospital, and so on.
There are six categories of AQI, namely ‘Good’ (0-50), ‘Satisfactory’ (50-100),’moderately polluted’ (100-200), ‘Poor’ (200-300), ‘Very Poor’ (300-400), and ‘Severe’ (400-500).
