Delhi’s AQI stays ‘moderate’; govt launches campaign to curb air pollution

New Delhi: The situation of Delhi’s air quality has not changed; it remained in the ‘moderate’ category on Wednesday morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital stayed at 215 at 9 am, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). A couple of days ago, Delhi residents got a respite when the AQI was recorded in the ‘satisfactory’ range. Therefore, the air quality in the Delhi NCR region continued to be between ‘satisfactory’ and ‘moderate.’

Delhi recorded its best air quality on March 9, with an AQI of 85. This was also the first time in five years that Delhi achieved a ‘satisfactory’ AQI in March, according to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

In response to pollution concerns, Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has launched an extensive campaign to mitigate air pollution. The main focus of the campaign is to reduce dust, manage traffic congestion, and make public transport smooth.

Several key measures have been taken, like regular mechanized sweeping and water sprinkling along the Ring Road, to prevent dust buildup. Construction sites will have to apply the dust control measures strictly. Besides this, authorities have been asked to increase the plantation drive along roads and try to create more and more green zones in the city to help in curbing air pollution.

The Delhi government is set to leave no stone unturned for making Delhi a cleaner and healthier city.
