Director Horticulture visits Doda to oversee progress

Jammu: C.L. Sharma, the Director of Horticulture in Jammu, along with Joint Director of Horticulture, Vikas Anand, recently went to Doda district on a two-day visit to look after the progress of the numerous horticulture schemes. The visit focused on the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and the Revised Modified High-Density Plantation Scheme.

During the trip, the director urged farmers to take full advantage of government schemes like HADP and the High-Density Plantation Scheme. He highlighted the district’s immense potential for horticulture crops and encouraged collaboration between Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and field workers to double farmers’ income. Special emphasis was placed on expanding the area under horticulture crops, establishing solar dryers, setting up protected cultivation structures, developing processing units, and meeting with officials.

The director during the meeting urged officials to ensure maximum outreach to farmers. He stressed the importance of effectively implementing schemes like HADP to achieve the government’s objectives.

The visit aimed to ensure that horticulture schemes are effectively implemented, benefiting farmers and boosting the region’s agricultural growth. The director encouraged all stakeholders to work together to make the Chenab region a model for horticulture development. He stressed that horticulture plays a key role in the valley’s economy, and the sector also fetches incomes to farmers.
