Distribution of Horticulture Crops at Kangpokpi

Ms Nemcha Kipgen, Textiles, Commerce & Industry and Cooperation minister distributed horticulture crops at Kangpokpi town.
The crops were distributed under the theme “Cultivation of Horticulture Crops as an alternative for Poppy Cultivation in Hill Areas”.

400 saplings of litchi, 15 bags of ginger, 80 bags of turmeric, 1500 saplings of lemon, and 5000 saplings of pineapple were distributed to 60 beneficiary villages.
Under the leadership of N Biren, the state government has been carrying out a drive against illegal poppy cultivation in the area.

To battle illegal poppy farming which has turned into a social issue the public authority has adopted a multi-pronged strategy through departmental endeavours to give alternative sources of livelihood to the farmers. The farmers have consented to stop the illegal growing with a sustainable integrated farming system.
