Earth Day 2025: India joins world to make planet cleaner and greener

New Delhi: The entire world comes on one platform every year on April 22 to observe Earth Day, aiming to raise awareness towards environmental protection and sustainability. The theme for 2025, “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET,” focuses on accelerating the shift to renewable energy to fight climate change. The day got underway in 1970 in the USA. Credit goes to Senator Gaylord Nelson, who launched the idea of a day dedicated to environmental education and action.

Earth Day 2025 highlights India’s growing commitment to clean energy, targeting to triple global renewable energy generation by 2030. India is already a leader in this area, with strong initiatives like the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Green India Mission. This year, India is also turning its attention to soil health — an often overlooked but vital part of our ecosystem. Healthy soil is key to tackling climate change, supporting farmers, and ensuring food security.
