Eco-friendly election campaign starts through ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ in J&K
Poonch: District Election Officer (DEO) Poonch, Vikas Kundal, started a tree-plantation drive called “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” linking it with the Green Sweep Campaign and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP). It is needless to say that many polling stations in Haveli, Mendhar, and Surankote assembly constituencies have been selected as green polling stations for the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir starting from September 18.
These stations will use eco-friendly voting materials, manage waste properly, and hold tree-planting activities and awareness programmes about the greenery. To encourage the citizens, the officer sowed a tree at Deena Nath Rafiq Memorial Higher Secondary School; with this, he sounded the bugle of the beginning of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The aim behind this drive is to promote both environmental responsibility and voters’ participation in polls.

The district administration is adamant that the forthcoming elections will be held in an eco-friendly environment, hoping other districts will follow the same sort of example. This initiative combines caring for the environment with the importance of voting, encouraging people in Jammu and Kashmir to be responsible citizens. The goal is to create a lasting positive impact on the community.
The event was attended by the principal of HSS Girls, Anjuman Shaheen, DFO Poonch, and other senior officials from the district administration.
