Eluru DC inspects horticulture methods to boost farmers’ income
Eluru: District collector of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh K. Vetri Selvi has been trying to change the complexion of the horticulture sector in the district. She recently urged the officials that our aim is to make Eluru a horticulture hub. She went on to say that first, take the farmers into confidence and educate them about modern techniques in horticulture and how to boost production.
The transmitting of knowledge will certainly help them to surge their production, providing farmers better income. The collector, along with top officials of the horticulture sector, inspected Dibbagudem, Garlamadugu, and Lakshmipuram in the Pedavegi mandal. They inspected the new harvesting methods in horticulture, which will increase the yields, making farmers economically sound.

She stated that horticulture crops are being cultivated in more than 1.50 lakh hectares in the district, pointing out that the district’s climate is ideal for growing oil palm, cocoa, mango, and other fruits. Oil Palm Centre director Kancharla Suresh said the palm fruit is being cultivated over 2.29 lakh hectares in Andhra Pradesh, with Eluru district alone growing oil palm on 80,000 hectares.
On this occasion, several scientists—M.V. Prasad, K. Manorama, K. Ramachandrudu, and G. Ravichandran—along with horticulture deputy director Rammohan and micro irrigation project director Ravi Kumar, were present. In the end, the collector urged scientists to continue their research, and its benefit should reach directly to the farming community.
