Farmers in Dighwara move to profitable flower farming
Chapra: Dighwara block in Saran district has been witnessing vibrant fields of marigold, cherry blossom, and chrysanthemum stretch across both sides of the road. It proves that the floriculture sector is flourishing in Bihar. The demand for flowers remains high on most occasions, especially for religious ceremonies and decorations. Therefore, Dighwara farmers are concentrating on flower farming and earning high incomes.
The flowers from Dighwara are being supplied to noted temples, including Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur, Maa Ambika Bhawani Temple in Aami, Baba Garib Nath Dham in Muzaffarpur, and Hanuman Mandir in Patna. Flowers are used during the time of weddings, elections, and numerous functions. Flower farming has increased the income of the local farmers. Several women of the region are making garlands, enhancing their incomes. Such flower garlands are being sent to other cities, including the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh. The floriculture sector has created new employment opportunities.
