Farmers need to get full benefit of government schemes: Uttarakhand CM

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently conducted a meeting with the top officials of the agriculture and Horticulture Department and discussed how to increase the economy of farmers in the state to make them more potent.

He went on to say that currently farmers need to know regarding excelling in the horticulture sector. Pushkar Singh Dhami stressed that several programmes need to be organized in the state so that farmers can avail benefits of schemes that are being run by the central and state governments for them.

Dhami urged the officials in the meeting to speed up the construction of polyhouses, which would help the farmers in increasing their income and will also make them self-employed as well.

He further added that polyhouses need to be erected in the state as per the target set for each year.

The Uttarakhand CM also asked that there is a need to work on the ‘Apple and Kiwi Mission’ so that their production can be increased in the state. He also said that there is a need for proper packaging and marketing of these two fruits.

The increase in the production of apples and kiwis is likely to strengthen the economy of the farmers of Uttarakhand.

There is a lot of potential in the aromatic sector in the state, and farmers should be motivated to go for aromatic farming, which can increase their income, Dhami said.

During the meeting, Dhami unveiled that five thousand women farmers are being trained for organic farming.

The annual calendar of horticulture was also released during the meeting, in which a target has been set for the construction of 23342 polyhouses in Uttarakhand by 2027. Currently, 8500 polyhouses are functioning in the state.
