Floral Eiffel Tower to entice visitors at Kadri Park’s Annual Flower Show
Mangaluru: Mangaluru’s Kadri Park has been decorated with flowers and fruits like a newly wedded bride. The Fruits and Flower show is to commence on January 23 and will continue till the 26th. Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, district administration, and the horticulture department have been organizing the event. The main attraction this year will be the 22-ft-tall famous Eiffel Tower created fully from flowers. The tower would be 12 ft in diameter and made from two lakh different species of flowers.
Visitors will also get a chance to witness some eye-catching, gigantic floral displays, such as a large mushroom, cannonball, honeybee, Mickey Mouse, and swan. A selfie spot has also been created. Several breathtaking artworks, like the Kambala jockey, fishermen, and Yakshagana made of millets and leaves, will be showcased during the four-day event.

Besides this, more than 20,000 varieties of flowers like salvia, chrysanthemum, zinnia, dianthus, aster, vinca rosea, coxcomb, dahlia, petunia, torenia, geranium, poinsettia, and American daisy will be displayed during the show. However, several stalls have also been erected to demonstrate the fruit sculpture created by noted artists.
Horticulture department deputy director Manjunath D said to promote apiculture, a stall will exhibit and sell the state government’s ‘Jhenkara’ brand of honey. Value additions of honey produced by farmers and organizations will also be exhibited. Nearly 1.5 lakh saplings of tomato, brinjal, chilli, okra, long yard beans, and bottle gourd raised by the horticulture department will be sold to the public at Re 1 per sapling.
A demonstration of some endemic plants of the Western Ghats and herbal plants will also take place during the flower show. People from the nursery sector, seed sellers, fertilizer dealers, and others are likely to come and sell their produce. The exhibition would be a wonderful place for the nature lovers to spend some time in a natural environment.
