Floriculture Department Bandipora interacts with local growers

Bandipora: The Department of Floriculture has been looking to develop the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir as a flower-growing hub. In view of this, the department recently held an interactive session with local growers, aiming to boost floriculture in the district. The aim of the event was to provide guidance to farmers about improving productivity so that they can gain maximum benefits from the floriculture sector.

During the event, discussion also took place on several key issues, such as the establishment of ornamental plant nurseries, setting up greenhouses for growing cut flowers, techniques of post-harvest management, improvement in aromatic plant cultivation, and making floriculture products more effective.

Officials also shared information regarding the ongoing schemes run by the government, like the Centrally Sponsored Scheme—Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (CSS-MIDH) and Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA). Such initiatives will provide financial help to flower growers who are taking a keen interest in commercial floriculture.

All encouragements have been given to farmers to use these schemes properly and receive benefits because floriculture crops generate huge profits compared to traditional farming. Currently the demand for ornamental plants, cut flowers, and aromatic oils is high in domestic as well as international markets.

This initiative is set to connect farmers with the floriculture department of Kashmir, getting correct information and support so that floriculture could be turned into a lucrative business for them, creating employment opportunities among the locals, inspiring youth to step into this sector and make it their livelihoods.
