Kashmir: Director of Floriculture, Kashmir, Shakeel ur Rehman held a meeting on Wednesday with the flower growers and entrepreneurs at Malis Training School, Rajbagh, Srinagar. A marathon discussion took place on how to promote floriculture, create job opportunities, and increase farmers’ income. Floriculture growers from all ten districts of the valley were present on the occasion and shared their ideas on how to combat challenges.
Director Rehman said that “Kashmir has immense potential in the sector, which will improve the economy of Kashmir as well.“ Our aim is to create job opportunities in the floriculture sector for the valley’s people.” He emphasized that the use of modern methods is essential for the further growth of the sector, promoting Kashmiri flowers in national and international markets.

The Rs. 8 crore action plan under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) for 2025–26 has been finalized for the bloom of the floriculture industry. This plan aims to provide better infrastructure, give protection to farmers, arrange proper water facilities, and develop ornamental nurseries, vermicompost units, and promotion of aromatic plant cultivation.
An additional Rs. 1.05 crore is allocated under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme, which will offer training for farmers, organizing workshops to help farmers learn the use of the latest equipment and techniques being used in flower farming.
The director asked the growers to adopt modern practices, do market research, and organize departmental awareness events, training, and exposure visits on a regular basis with the focus on nursery management, cut flower cultivation, and packaging of aromatic oil.
It is essential to organize the Buyer-Seller Meet often, which will help growers to connect with the buyers and stretch their businesses as well.
