Flower business booms in Haryana amid assembly polls

Chandigarh: Haryana is gearing up for the state assembly election. Polling will be held  on October 5, 2024. All the leading political parties have left no stone unturned to woo the people of the state in their campaign. However, flower traders have been enjoying their business during election time. The demand for flowers, including garland, has surged due to frequent public rallies of political parties and their top leaders.

As per an expectation, around 500 flower garlands are being sold daily. As a result, the prices of marigold and rose flowers have seen a sharp increase. The demand for bouquets is high because it is given to  senior leaders. Flower prices in Haryana have gone up to 30%.

A regular-sized garland that used to sell for Rs 20 is now being sold for Rs 35. In public rallies, leaders are given large, heavy garlands. The cost of such large garlands is quite high. A flower shop owner named Pawan Saini mentioned that currently the price of marigolds is Rs 180-200 per kg while roses are being sold at Rs 350 per kg.

Flower seller Ramjeelal said that in the evenings, flower sellers often run out of garlands. People from political parties place orders in advance for garlands to be made. Currently, around 500 garlands are being sold daily due to upcoming assembly elections. Marigold and rose garlands are particularly in high demand. The demand for flowers will go up again on October 8, when the results of the elections will be declared.

In some places, flower are even showered on the leaders. This has led to a rise in the demand for flowers, garlands, and bouquets.
