Flower sales surge in Pune amid Gudi Padwa
Pune: The Gudi Padwa festival is celebrated with gaiety all over Maharashtra. It is a traditional new year for the Marathi people; this year it will be celebrated on March 30 (Sunday). The demand for flowers increases on this occasion. Therefore, the market of Pune is packed with different varieties of flowers, residents thronged to markets to purchase them for the upcoming festival.
People decorate their houses with garlands and other floral arrangements during Gudi Padwa. Farmers generally reserved quality flowers for this occasion due to the increased demand. Farmers from Pune, Solapur, and Satara districts transported their flowers to the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard flower market in a huge quantity for sale. The sale is booming on Saturday, increasing the income of flower growers.

On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, the demand for garlands, torans (door hangings), and decorations increases. People are taking a lot of interest in marigolds, chrysanthemums, and asters. This year, due to an increased supply of marigold, its prices have dropped significantly.
Currently, marigold is being sold at Rs 20 to 40 per kg, Gulchadi (bouquet) – Rs 250 to 300, chrysanthemum (Shevanti) – Rs 80 to 150, and Gulchadi (bouquet) – Rs 250 to 300. The flower markets in Pune are flourishing because a great rush can be seen in the market, and people from all walks of life are purchasing different varieties of flowers for different purposes.
