For Irrigation and Horticulture, NDMC Will Establish Additional STPs
As a part of the ‘Mission Green’ initiative, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to set up extra Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) will be installed at Nehru Park in Chakayapuri with a limit of 500 kilolitres each day (KLD).
This decision was taken after LG Mr. Vinai K Saxena visited the park and after inspecting it was found that more STPs are required for greenery and plantation beautification, and also to address the water shortage problem.
Nehru park is like the lungs of the NDMC area and is situated in the heart of the city. It is spread over an area of 75 areas which has more than 3,700 trees of 126 different species. Lodhi garden was also suggested for setting up the STP.
If NDMC meets its overall requirement of water, it will be a great contribution to saving the environment as well as the Yamuna from getting polluted and contaminated.
Right now, half of the water prerequisite is satisfied through the current STP, and the remaining half through unfiltered water supply got from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). However, the unfiltered treated water from the CPWD for the water system of Nehru Park has issues like the scent of water which troubles the climate as well as an enormous number of guests consistently. With the extra STP at Nehru Park, there will be less reliance on the CPWD.
