Gerbera cultivation flourishes in UP with subsidies and modern techniques
Barabanki: Flower cultivation is a booming business; currently, it has been fetching handsome income to farmers. Gerbera is an attractive flower known for its beauty, fragrance, and vibrant colors, enticing people of all walks of life. The UP government has been giving subsidies and providing modern technology techniques to farmers so that their income can be increased.
Neeraj Patel, a farmer from Laxmanpur village in Barabanki district, started harvesting Gerbera flowers in a polyhouse using advanced drip irrigation. Interestingly, this method not only conserves water but also gives bumper production. Farmers have been getting all kinds of support from the National Horticulture Mission Scheme to accelerate the floriculture sector.

Neeraj commenced Gerbera cultivation in just one acre of land; he prepared a polybag house, costing around 70 to 75 lakh rupees. He planted 25,000 plants, yielding a huge amount of flowers every day. The life of these plants is up to six years.
The state government has given a subsidy of 50% for the setting up of his farming system, and he received Rs 30 lakh as well for the ploy house. Neeraj successfully availed himself of the situation, currently earning between 7 and 8 lakh rupees annually from the cultivation of Gerbera flowers. Besides this, his farm has been providing employment opportunities to the locals as well.
The demand for flowers is increasing day by day, and the government has been providing support, so Gerbera cultivation has become a lucrative alternative for the farmers to earn a lot of money. It is a high-profit-return business after low investment.
