Government’s MIS initiative to support farmers amid price decline

New Delhi: There is great news for the horticulture farmers as the government has launched the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to help farmers who lose their crops due to falling prices of horticulture products. This initiative will certainly help farmers to get a fair price for their produce, despite the unstable conditions of the market. The central and state governments both run MIS jointly to provide financial assistance to the farming community during the low prices of some perishable agricultural produce.

Through this scheme, the government will buy horticultural products at a minimum support price (MSP) so that farmers don’t face any financial losses. It often happens that the prices of fruits and vegetables slip due to oversupply. In this situation, MIS will help them by purchasing their produce. This way they can get a suitable price. This support is set to be a booster for them to plan their next crop.

Through this initiative, farmers’ financial stability will be restored, middlemen will be eliminated, and it will be the duty of the government to prevent wastage and maintain supply. MIS to be applied to various fruits, vegetables, and spices such as mango, onion, tomato, potato, apple, grapes, orange, banana, pomegranate, and more. This initiative is set to make farmers financially stable and safeguard their livelihood as well.
