Srinagar: Increasing urban population is dangerous for people’s health. All efforts are going on to protect the environment, especially in big cities. In this regard, the Department of Floriculture Kashmir doesn’t like to leave any stone unturned to bring life to Srinagar’s parks and gardens. They are often called the ‘lungs’ of the city. The government is taking all essential steps to expand greenery in the city to keep the environment healthy for the residents.

As per a report, Shakeel-ul-Rehman Rather, Director of Floriculture Kashmir, said that the department will plant at least 15,000 perennial trees across the city. These trees are long-lasting and need to be planted only once, but they offer benefits for many years. “Pollution and environmental damage have weakened many of our existing trees,” Rather explained. “Some are too old, while others can no longer survive the changing weather and conditions.”
The plantation drive got underway with Srinagar’s famous parks and gardens. Later, the movement will spread to other districts of the valley, aiming to make the air quality better and add more greenery to the city so that urban spaces could be saved from pollution and poor air quality.
According to officials, this drive will increase the green belt of Jammu and Kashmir, helping to protect the environment so that residents can breathe fresh air and spend a healthier and more pleasant life. It is a big stride to make Srinagar cleaner and greener
