High-level meeting held at ICAR-CITH to boost J&K’s horticulture products

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has left no stone unturned to enhance the production of agriculture and horticulture sectors. In view of this, a high-level meeting of Jammu and Kashmir’s agricultural and horticultural sectors took place recently at ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (ICAR-CITH), Rangret, Srinagar.

Dr. Mahendra Kumar Verma, Director of ICAR-CITH, chaired the meeting. His main focus was on the huge challenges that are being faced by stakeholders and several issues that are being faced by apple-growing farmers. Therefore, in this meeting several noted stakeholders, including the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Fruits and Vegetables Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA), Bashir Ahmad Naik, and representatives from the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union were present so that they could keep their issues on the table.

Several issues were raised in the meeting, such as strategies to boost the area’s horticulture landscape and the improvement of fruit growers’ livelihoods. In the end, Naik thanked Dr. Verma for making the meeting possible, and he also expressed his gratitude to all the participants. “The insights shared during this session have laid a solid foundation for addressing the pressing issues faced by the horticulture community,” he said, appreciating the commitment of the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union to the sector’s development.

In the discussion, stakeholders had shown a lot of commitment to collaborating on all the issues discussed in the meeting. Such efforts are likely to prove fruitful for the valley’s agricultural and horticultural sectors.

The meeting concluded with optimism as stakeholders committed to implementing the collaborative initiatives discussed. These efforts aim to create a positive impact on Jammu and Kashmir’s agricultural and horticultural sectors for the better growth and sustainable development of the fruit growers of the valley.
