Higher education institutions to host “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” drive on Sept 17

New Delhi: The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign has been gaining popularity among people from all walks of life. Students are especially enthusiastic; they are pushing and encouraging each other on the plantation of trees. To achieve the campaign’s target, all higher education institutions in the country will organize a one-day special tree-planting programme.

An important feature of this campaign is that the day September 17 will be celebrated as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The entire nation is set to speed up to participate in “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” Therefore, the plantation drive is going on war footing.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all higher education institutions to participate fully in the tree plantation drive on September 17 and aim to set a record for the number of trees planted. This order was issued in line with the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which aims to plant over 80 crore trees by September. Currently, 70 crore trees have been planted, and the goal is to meet the target.

All efforts are being made to achieve this goal, and the deadline is approaching. The Ministry of Forest and Environment has also directed all central and state government departments to participate more and more in the plantation drive to complete the target.
PM Modi launched the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on World Environment Day, June 5. The campaign aims to plant 80 crore trees by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025.
