Himachal to set up horticulture centre of excellence in Shahpur
Shimla: In a significant move to boost horticulture in Himachal Pradesh, Deputy Chief Whip in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Kewal Singh Pathania, announced plans to establish a centre of excellence for the Horticulture Department in Shahpur. This initiative aims to benefit local farmers and enhance the region’s horticultural practices.
Pathania, along with officials from the Horticulture Department and Israeli horticulture experts, recently visited the proposed site for the new centre. The team, including Israeli experts Uri Kaviston and Yuval Etyar, reviewed the land for its potential. According to Pathania, the government is committed to supporting farmers by encouraging them to cultivate orchards of fruit-bearing trees, which can significantly improve their livelihoods.

The Israeli experts, after conducting a survey of the area, confirmed that the land and climate conditions in Shahpur are ideal for establishing a citrus fruit nursery and demonstration centre. This collaboration with Israeli experts is expected to introduce advanced horticultural techniques to the region.
Pathania assured that the state government, along with the support of the Government of India and Israeli professionals, would provide all necessary resources to establish the Centre of Excellence. This project is set to promote sustainable farming practices, improve agricultural productivity, and create new opportunities for farmers in the region
