Horticulture boom in Kuppam with innovative techniques
Chittoor: Kuppam, a small town in Chittoor district, has emerged as a thriving hub for horticulture, setting new standards in modern agriculture. The Kuppam Horticulture Hub, leveraging advanced Israeli technology, has revolutionized farming practices, significantly benefiting farmers in the region.
Established on January 2, 2019, by former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Pedda Bangarunatham village spans 22.8 acres. It focuses on cultivating high-quality flowers and vegetables using innovative techniques such as drip irrigation, polyhouses, and grafting.
The hub’s initiatives have helped farmers produce more with fewer resources, leading to increased productivity and profitability. Crops like marigolds, tomatoes, and capsicum thrive in the region’s favorable climate. Additionally, the hub provides training programs for farmers, officials, and students, equipping them with skills in modern agricultural practices.

Over the years, the hub has significantly improved local farmers’ incomes by enhancing yields and ensuring better market access. Ramesh Naidu, a local farmer, shared his experience: “Earlier, we faced low yields and limited market opportunities. Thanks to the hub’s training and hybrid seeds, my tomato crop yield has tripled, and I can sell my produce at better prices.”
Recognized for its remarkable achievements, the Kuppam Horticulture Hub received the prestigious Skoch Award on November 30, 2024. Among India’s 57 Centres of Excellence, it stood out for its exemplary use of modern technologies in cultivating flowers and vegetables.
The hub has not only boosted the region’s economy but also positioned Andhra Pradesh as a leader in modern horticulture practices, setting an inspiring example for others.
