Horticulture brings prosperity to Bitad farmers
Botad: Farmers have been gradually shifting from traditional farming to horticulture crops all over the country; Botad is not an exception. This change has brought prosperity to their lives because they are yielding fruits and vegetables as per the season, getting financial support through various schemes and subsidies from the government, making them self-reliant amid their high production. Horticulture crops fetch money immediately; they don’t have to wait, sell their products, and receive cash.
Jayraj Vala, the Deputy Horticulture Officer of Botad district, shared that a significant number of farmers are now cultivating horticultural crops. Most of them sell their produce in local markets or nearby districts. However, for those interested in exporting their produce overseas via sea or air, the government has announced subsidies to cover transportation costs.

The government has been providing Rs 2.5 lakh subsidies for exporters who want to transport their goods by sea, while those who want to export their products by air receive assistance up to Rs 10 lakh. The Horticulture Department is providing these benefits, but it is made specifically for registered exporters. Farmers and exporters can apply for this subsidy through their portal.
Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), or entities registered as exporters, are entitled to these benefits. The application process got underway on November 21 and will continue for a month. A huge number of farmers are taking interest and applying. It is essential to submit valid documents; otherwise, the application won’t be entertained. For more information, farmers can contact the local horticulture office.
This initiative is likely to boost horticulture exports, making farmers financially stable while contributing to the growth of the agriculture sector.
