New Delhi. Looking at the post-harvest losses and financial difficulties faced by the apple growers of Kashmir, The Horticulture Department Kashmir is gearing up to build eight additional cold storage facilities in the Kashmir valley in an effort to counter these problems. These are anticipated to increase the capacity by 40,000 metric tons.
Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir Subject Matter Specialist Mohd Amin Bhat stated that the department is preparing to build eight more cold storage facilities in the valley, which will significantly increase the valley’s capacity to 40,000 metric tons.
The department of horticulture has, interestingly, increased the capacity of its cold storage facilities from 180,000 tons in 2022 to 206,000 tons this year. He claimed that from 42 in 2022 to 44 this year, the number of cold storage facilities has increased.
The department, according to him, is primarily concerned with expanding cold storage facilities. “By providing more cold storage facilities, our apple produce could be stored for more months, which will help get a good price in the market,” added Bhat.
