Horticulture Dept. offers 96,000 saplings to orchardists in kinnaur
Kinnaur: Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh is known for its high-quality delicious apples, famous for their exclusive sweetness, solid texture, and longer shelf life. The Horticulture Department of the district has been trying its best to provide high-quality apple seedlings to the farmers. Therefore, the department has registered 15 nurseries in three blocks of Kinnaur, providing a huge number of saplings at nominal prices.
As per Dr. Upendra Singh Negi, Deputy Director of Horticulture in Kinnaur, the department has prepared 26 varieties of saplings in this season. With over 40,000 apple seedlings already in demand. Meanwhile, the nurseries are working on a far footing to provide saplings to orchardists.
There are several noted and registered nurseries running in the district, such as Raja Nursery, Vidya Nursery, Harshit Fruit Nursery, and Vimal Kumar Rodhi in Kalpa block; Sushil Kumar and Nima Chering in Pooh block; and Keemo Khangsar, Thakur Nursery, and GNNO Fruit Nursery in Nichar block. They are ready to provide popular apple varieties like Royal Delicious, Super Chief, Granny Smith, Scarlet Spur-2, Jeromine, Red Velox, and many more.

The department has fixed reasonable prices for the saplings, such as seedling rootstock-grafted saplings at Rs 180-200, 3-5 branch saplings at Rs 200-300, and saplings with over 5 branches at Rs 300-400. Several imported plants, like almonds, plums, and walnuts, are priced at Rs 300 per sapling.
The department has made it clear that the sale of these seedlings will commence in the second week of this month. Farmers will get a chance to obtain quality plants for the forthcoming season. The Horticulture Department has left no stone unturned in the support of the region’s apple growers, which helps in their economic growth and global presence as well.
