Horticulture Deptt organizes farmers’ awareness programme in Kalsote village

Udhampur: The Horticulture Department organized a day-long farmers’ awareness programme at Kalsote village in Block Moungri, Udhampur district, to make the farmers aware of the importance of horticulture crops. Chief Horticulture Officer Brij Vallabh Gupta presided over the event. Local MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta was the chief guest at the event. Around 300 farmers from nearby areas participated in the programme.

The Chief Horticulture Officer welcomed the chief guest and briefed the attendees about various schemes under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme. He urged farmers to adopt walnut cultivation under the Revised Modified High-Density Scheme. Addressing the gathering, MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta encouraged farmers to take advantage of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department’s schemes.

He suggested adopting high-density plantations of walnut and apple and practicing protected vegetable cultivation to boost income and livelihoods. He also emphasized focusing on area-specific crops to generate self-employment through horticulture. The MLA listened to local grievances and instructed departments like Jal Shakti, PWD, Education, and Rural Development to address issues promptly.

Seed kits and power tillers were distributed to eligible farmers, and senior officials inspected the various stalls erected during the event. The event also saw participation from officials, including the Chief Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer, Tehsildar Moungri, and others.
