Horticulture University gears up to start annual fruit plant sale

Nauni: Horticulture plays a key role in the economy of Himachal Pradesh. Therefore the state government always comes forward to promote this sector. In view of this, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, has decided to start its annual sale of fruit plants from December 16. Farmers can collect plants from the university’s main campus Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and research stations. It will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The university is set to distribute more than 2 lakh plants, including varieties of apple, kiwi, pomegranate, apricot, peach, nectarine, cherry, walnut, persimmon, pear, and plum. Farmers can get quality saplings without spending a penny so that they can plant them in their own field and grow fruits in large quantities and fetch a huge amount of money.

Nauni University has been playing a significant role in helping horticulture farmers so that they can boost their yield and become self-reliant. It provides disease-resistant and climate-adapted plant varieties to farmers, encouraging them to increase their product and quality as well. The plants that are about to be supplied have passed through rigorous research so that they can meet the challenges arising due to climatic changes.

The horticulture sector’s contribution is significant in Himachal Pradesh’s economy. Farmers are being empowered by Nauni University by providing quality planting material. Farmers get a chance to boost their productivity and sell their products as per the market demands.
