Pune: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research—Directorate of Floricultural Research (ICAR-DFR) in Pune and the Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC) in Kannauj have jointly decided to develop high-quality fragrances from flower crops. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to decide to work together on training programmes, capacity building, and generating original fragrance products from flowers.
Dr. K.V. Prasad, Director of ICAR-DFR, went on to say that the MoU is a big stride for the promotion of fragrance research and it will also help in the development of valuable products from flowers. He further stated that this MoU will certainly help the farmers boost their income by producing high-value chemicals and related products from plants.
Shakti Vinay Shukla, Director of FFDC, highlighted the importance of giving special training to ICAR and AICRP scientists so that they can improve their skills in the creation of different kinds of fragrance. He stressed the aim is to develop unique floral fragrances to attract more and more customers.
Officials from organizations are ready to work together, sharing knowledge, promoting research, and creating value-added products from fragrant flowers. To start this collaboration, a 10-day training programme has been launched on producing fragrant raw materials and creating fragrances and flavours for scientists from ICAR-DFR and AICRP centers as part of the collaboration among the organizations.
