ICAR, Puse develops disease-resistant breed ‘Tomato Hybrid 6’ for high yield

Pusa: Tomatoes are one of the most popular crops grown globally. The demand for tomatoes always remains high in every season. Therefore, it is crucial for farmers to choose the right variety to get better production and fulfill the demand of the people. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR), Pusa, developed Tomato Hybrid 6 to solve the issues faced by farmers.

This variety of tomato is disease-resistant and produces a huge amount of tomatoes, making it a good choice for farmers, especially in places where growing conditions are tough. Disease in tomatoes is common, and it causes big money losses. The Pusa Tomato Hybrid 6 is specially made to resist four major diseases:

Tomato Leaf Curl Disease (ToLCD): A virus spread by whiteflies that causes leaves to curl, slows plant growth, and reduces the amount of tomatoes.

Late Blight: A fungus that grows well in humid conditions and can quickly damage tomato plants.

Fusarium Wilt: A fungus in the soil that stops water and nutrients from reaching the plant, causing it to wilt and die.

Bacterial Wilt: A bacteria in the soil that causes plants to wilt quickly and is hard to control once it’s in the soil.

By planting Pusa Tomato Hybrid 6, farmers can use fewer chemicals to fight diseases, which saves money and is better for the environment. This tomato variety is replete with nutritional value, making it a good choice for people who are conscious about their health.
