New Delhi: Prateek Tiwari, the founder and chief executive officer of Living Greens Organics Pvt. Ltd, unveiled India’s first urban farming center on the rooftop of the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) building at Masab Tank, Hyderabad. The event, which was organized in association with CDMA Staff College in India, was a crucial turning point in that nation’s efforts to incorporate environmentally friendly techniques into urban environments.

This rooftop farm spans the entire CDMA rooftop. It includes novel methods of growing fresh organic vegetables, medicinal plants, and aromatic herbs without the use of soil. This business endeavor intends to solve several goals that are expected to redefine urban farming in India.

The foremost benefit of the Urban Farming Centre will be the first-hand experience of how organic produce can be grown on rooftops through Portable Farming Systems to the urban residents. The setup demonstrates the feasibility of producing high-quality, organic crops in limited spaces without the need for traditional soil-based cultivation methods.

The project also aims to empower women regarding knowledge and skill of rooftop organic farming techniques. The center offers training programs in Rooftop Organic Farming to Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This will train women how to cultivate organic vegetables, not only for personal consumption but also for commercial purposes. This initiative is also beneficial to promote local entrepreneurship and healthy living.

Additionally, this project will train various governmental entities interested in implementing rooftop organic farming. The program seeks to promote an environment of eco-consciousness and self-sufficiency by providing these departments with the knowledge of sustainable agriculture.

The journey of Living Greens Organics, which paved the way for this remarkable project, began in 2013. Prateek Tiwari, an agriculture engineer at the time, took the bold step of leaving his stable job at Walmart to venture into the world of organic farming. Fueled by a deep understanding of the potential ill effects of consuming conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, Tiwari embarked on a mission to provide accessible solutions for urban dwellers to cultivate their own organic produce.
