Jammu organizes 1100-km horticulture awareness walk

Doda: The Horticulture Department of Jammu has been trying to enhance the horticulture sector in the valley. Therefore, the department organized the 1100-KM Mission Horticulture Awareness Programme to promote horticulture in the entire region. The aim of the mission is to strengthen the horticulture sector in the state, providing knowledge to farmers about the adoption of modern techniques to increase production and improve their economic position.

District Development Council (DDC) Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal chaired a high-level meeting with the aim to promote horticulture development in the region. In the first phase, key horticulture projects and government support schemes were highlighted.

The initiative was led by “The Bicycle Man of India” in collaboration with the Chief Horticulture Officer, Doda. The programme emphasized high-density plantations, orchard rejuvenation, rain-fed area development, and designer plant production.

DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal praised the effort made by the horticulture department, highlighting the importance of sustainable farming and innovation in boosting the horticulture sector. He went on to say that farmers should take advantage of government schemes to boost their production as well as income.

Key projects such as farm mechanization and automation, rain-fed area development, and designer plant production were displayed because they are the key pillars for boosting growth. The programme ended with a call for greater participation from farmers and local stakeholders, focusing a collective effort for sustainable horticultural development in the Doda District.
