Kas Plateau experiences 50% more flowers this season
Satara: It is an amazing time for the flower and nature lovers to visit Kas Plateau due to the blossom of 50% more flowers in this season compared to last year. The perfect monsoon has promoted excessive flowering, and the plateau is laden with different kinds of eye-catching flowers. It is situated in Satara district, famous for its unbelievable biodiversity and rare species of flowers.
‘Karvi’, a light blue-purple flower, has been the center of attraction this year because this variety has laden all over the garden. As per the naturalists, such an abundance of flowers comes once in seven years. Umakant Chavan, an environment researcher, said, “When the monsoon is a bit delayed, we generally see heaps of Karvi flowers. Natural cropping and manuring have helped to flourish more varieties of flowers.

It is needless to add that good weather conditions have helped a lot in all the plateaus near Kolhapur and even in the Western Ghats for the blooming of such huge flowers. Some experts feel that several more species are likely to bloom within a few days. Therefore, a huge number of visitors are coming to see nature’s beauty, and it is expected that more visitors will turn up in the coming weeks.
The amazing flower show has been enticing people; when a Mumbai-based resident went to visit the plateau last weekend, she faced a long traffic jam before reaching the spot. According to a guide, more than 5,000 people remain at the spot most of the time.
The forest departments and allied conservationists have left no stone unturned in managing the huge crowd, ensuring parking, and online booking to keep the visitor number in control to preserve the plateau and flowers.
