Kathua: Farmers and students get training on modern floriculture techniques
Kathua: The CSIR, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), recently conducted a special training programme on scientific management and value addition of floricultural crops at Government Degree College, Kathua. This initiative was organized as part of the CSIR Floriculture Mission, aiming to help students and farmers gain knowledge of modern techniques about flower farming to boost its production as well as business opportunities.
In this event, around 80 farmers and 90 students from Kathua district took part, where farmers were trained in scientific nursery production, crop management, disease control, and marketing strategies. High-yield seeds of marigold and other plants were distributed among the farmers so that they could enhance their cultivation and income.

Experts transmitted knowledge to students on value-added floriculture technologies like dry flower technology, resin, perfumes, attars, and flower printing. These skills will certainly help them in exploring business opportunities in the floriculture sector.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM Jammu, assured continued support for farmers and students through training and incubation programs. The mission, guided by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, focuses on expanding floriculture in the region and increasing crop production.
Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Head of KVK Kathua, stressed the need for scientific cultivation methods and market-driven strategies to improve farmer profits.
