Agriculture Minister P. Prasad’s Residence in Full Bloom with Marigolds and Globe Amarnath

New Delhi: Preparing for the Onam festival, Kerela’s Agriculture Minister, Mr. P. Prasad cultivated 2500 marigolds and 250 globe amaranth in his residence at Cherthala. He began harvesting the flowers on Sunday. While scripting a success story on floriculture, Mr. Prasad shared that seasonal floriculture was very profitable to him.

Cherthala taluk in Kanjikuzhy block are specially cultivating marigold, Ceylon slitwort, globe amaranth in large tracts of land keeping in mind the demand of flowers for upcoming festival of Onam. So, other than P. Prasad, several farmers, women self-help groups are also engaged in farming of these flowers. These gleaming gardens are an ideal site for photo shoots and hence is attracting visitors from even from far off places.

Prasad informed that people can buy flowers from his residence at reasonable rates during the Onam season. Other than flowers he is also cultivating sweet potatoes and arrowroot. He says that more flowers and vegetables should be grown locally as it can be very profitable to the farmers.
