Kisan Diwas 2024: IDHTPL promotes modern apple farming in Uttarakhand

Bhimtal: Indo-Dutch Horticulture Technologies (IDHTPL) celebrated Kisan Diwas 2024 at their Chafi facility in Bhimtal, focusing on honoring farmers and fostering collaboration with students. The aim of the event was to increase the production of apples through the ‘Unnati-Apple Initiative.’ The purpose was to promote new techniques in the horticulture sector.

Dr. Sudhir Chadha, CEO & Founder, addressed the gathering virtually, encouraging the youth to stay connected to agriculture. Director Sushant Chadha led interactive sessions with students and faculty from Graphic Era Hill University. These discussions, under the platform ‘Chaupal—the Farmers Talk,’ explored real-world farming challenges and solutions.

The event celebrated successful ‘Unnati-Apple’ farmers who adopted Ultra-High Density Plantation (UHDP) Apple Technology, a joint initiative of Coca-Cola India (CCIPL) and IDHTPL. Eight farmers shared their journeys, showcasing resilience, innovation, and the transformative impact of sustainable practices.

A highlight was the collaboration between farmers and 14 horticulture graduates as part of a Community Learning Programme. This unique exchange of ideas included discussions on income generation, innovative farming techniques, and initiatives like setting up a ‘Plant Health Clinic’ to support agriculture in Uttarakhand.

The event got underway with Saraswati Vandana sung by children from Ghingharani Primary School. After that, the inaugural lamp-lit ceremony took place, led by Graphic Era Hill University’s HOD, farmers, and students. The colourful event was flourished in which it was shown the adaptation of modern technology in the horticulture sector, aiming to unveil the changing trend of Uttarakhand’s agricultural and horticultural sectors.
