Krishnagiri’s floriculture farmers to receive free power: DC

Krishnagiri: The floriculture segment is getting popularity among farmers across the nation. Therefore, a lot of focus has been given on this sector, providing employment opportunities as well as handsome income to the farmers’ community. Collector of Krishnagiri K.M. Sarayu has announced that free power will be provided to floriculture farmers for their farming needs. This scheme is likely to give them a lifeline to plant more flowers and earn a better income.

Many floriculture farmers rely on electricity for their cultivation to surge their production. The district administration said that this scheme will encourage farmers to come ahead more in this sector. The farmers of the district are encouraged to take advantage of this facility.

Additionally, farmers have requested subsidies for bulldozers, earthmovers, and defodders. The Collector has instructed the Agriculture Engineering Department to prepare and submit a proposal to the government regarding these subsidies. Officials were also directed to provide a status report on the actions taken in response to various demands made by farmers during a grievances meeting held on Friday.

During the meeting, farmers voiced specific concerns, including the removal of encroachments along the water channels of the Chinnar River. They also asked the Horticulture Department to distribute free vegetable saplings to them.

Besides this, farmers stated that the power lines need to be relocated for safety because they have gone through the regulated agriculture market in Krishnagiri. Such discussions took place to improve the farming conditions of floriculture in the district, seeking support from the government as per their needs.
