Lalbagh’s Bonsai Garden reopens with new species on display

Bengaluru: The Bonsai Garden at Lalbagh Botanical Garden was closed to visitors due to renovation works. It is now once again open to the public after 24 months. However, further development will continue phase wise. Currently, the garden has displayed above 400 varieties of bonsai plants. Several new species, such as Ficus microcarpa (Chinese Banyan) and Ficus benjamina (Weeping Fig), have been introduced.

Meanwhile, most of the bonsai plants are being grown within Lalbagh Botanical Garden. It is expected that 20% of the plants have been brought from other parts of the country. The entrance of the garden has been modified just like the Japanese Pagoda style, making it remarkably beautiful.

M Jagadeesh, Joint Director of Horticulture (Parks and Gardens) at Lalbagh, shared insights into the renovation. “The Bonsai Garden will be developed in three phases. The first phase is complete, and we opened it to the public during the Flower Show. The second and third phases will start soon,” he said.

The aim of the renovation is to preserve rare plant species and spread awareness among people about the importance of bonsai cultivation. The garden is a wonderful destination for plant and nature lovers, where they can spend some valuable time around nature.

The garden will remain open from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Visitors will get a chance to witness a beautifully designed garden and learn about the growth of bonsai. The ongoing overhaul work will certainly make the garden more attractive for nature fanatics.
