Looking for Solutions for Uprooted Trees: Delhi LG, Vinai Kumar Saxena

After the havoc the LG visited the affected area for a survey and ordered officials to take steps to remove the debris and clear the road as soon as possible to mitigate the inconvenience caused to people. Officials of the New Delhi Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board, environment and forest department and traffic police were asked to ensure result-oriented seamless inter-department/agency coordination.

Directions have been given to scientifically prune all trees taller than 45 feet, starting 10 feet above the surface. It will strengthen the trees and make them healthier, and will also prevent their natural drying up. Experts blamed the concretisation around the base of trees and the unscientific approach to maintaining the green cover for such huge destruction.

The civic bodies have also been directed to take necessary steps to improve the health of the trees whose roots have weakened due to the concretisation of pavements. Also, deconcretising of 1 sq m around the base would be done.
