Mahesh Pipariya’s flowers hit global shelves
Rajkot: Mahesh Pipariya belongs to Rajkot district in Gujarat. He has succeeded in organic farming due to hard work and determination. Currently, he is the owner of a 22-acre certified organic farm, switched to organic farming, leaving the traditional one; after that, Mahesh exports his farm’s produce to international markets. His organic roses, marigolds, guava leaves, and other products are in great demand in global markets, fetching him over Rs 50 lakh per year.
He cultivated roses on 10 acres of land. He grows several kinds of roses that bloom throughout the year. He said that the ideal time for rose plantation is during the months of July-August or February-March. After that the plant will bear flowers for up to five years, making it a profitable business.

Mahesh uses the “stem cutting” method for planting roses, where saplings are bought from nurseries and planted in the fields. Each acre accommodates 2,200–2,500 rose plants, spaced 3 feet apart with 5 feet between rows. His roses are particularly popular with companies that use rose petals for making herbal teas.
In addition to roses, Mahesh also grows organic marigolds. Interestingly, his marigold flowers are not only sold in India but are exported to countries like the UK. Mahesh prepares marigold saplings himself and plants them on his farm, producing nearly 1 tonne of marigold petals every year. These petals are sold abroad, earning him significant profits.
Mahesh has established irrigation systems on his farm. He also used drip irrigation to conserve water, which can give better quality crops. The adoption of modern techniques has helped in his bumper production of flowers.
