Manipur farmers visit Tripura to gain horticulture knowledge

Agartala: The craze of horticulture has been increasing among farmers. They are eager to learn the modern technique to shift from traditional farming. The movement of farmers has sped up from one place to another, aiming to learn about the horticulture. Therefore, a group of 10 farmers from Manipur recently visited Tripura to see ongoing projects of horticulture development.

The purpose of their visit is to know the latest developments in the horticulture sector. They will get first-hand knowledge about professional cultivation to get more yield and earn more income. The visit plays a crucial role in introducing farmers and agricultural professionals to new technologies and techniques that can be practically applied. “Seeing is believing,” said a representative of the programme, emphasizing the importance of first-hand knowledge acquisition.

The visit gives people from different areas a chance to meet and learn from one another. It focuses on new ideas in modern farming methods like horticulture technology, growing oil palm, organic farming, precision farming, and micro-irrigation. It also covers ways to protect the environment and make money through safe vegetable farming, growing flowers, exotic fruits, mushroom farming, and traditional horticulture.

The farmers went to see many project sites in Bishalgarh, in the Sepahijala district. These projects are managed by the Agriculture Department and were part of the farmers’ exposure visit. The purpose of this visit is to help farmers learn advanced farming techniques so that they can improve farming in their own state.
