Marigold farming gains popularity among farmers for higher profits

Gonda: Flower cultivation has been enticing farmers to venture into this sector due to better income in less labour. Therefore, several vegetable cultivators have switched to the floriculture sector to strengthen their economies. Ramaknat Singh, a farmer from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, adopted the same policy. Earlier, he used to cultivate vegetables, but he was not happy with the profit he was getting from it. Therefore, he started his concentration on marigold farming, which proved handy for him. Currently, his income has fetched.

Ramakant said that he brought marigold plants from Banaras. After that, he sowed 3 thousand plants in one bigha (measurement of land). He had to spend 10 to 15 thousand rupees on the plantation process and got the result soon; flowers started coming in about 70 days, encouraging Ramakand to go ahead.

Nervousness was on his face when he ventured into flower cultivation; he was anxious about where to sell his products. Fortunately, he got flower markets in Gonda and Ayodhya. At present, he has been successfully sending his flowers to several cities. Seeing his success, many farmers abandoned their vegetables or traditional farming and followed in his footsteps.

Ramakant said that in marigold farming, farmers don’t need to work  hard. The process of plantation is easy, and profit is satisfactory. At present, Ramakant is fetching one lakh rupee per bigha through marigold farming. With the grand success, Ramakant has made his identity in the entire region in flower cultivation as well as its successful business.
