Marigold farming turns into profitable alternative for farmers

Barabanki: Several farmers are struggling at the moment with traditional farming amid low profits. As a result, they are moving towards floriculture to fetch better income. Therefore, flower farming has been getting popularity among the farming community, especially marigolds and roses, because their demand always remains high in the market, giving satisfactory income to farmers.

A progressive farmer from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh named Ashish has turned toward marigold cultivation. He has been cultivating flowers for the last couple of years, earning significant income with minimal investment. He said currently, he has been cultivating marigold on half an acre of land. Farmers need to spend Rs 5,000 to 6,000, profiting around Rs 60,000 to 70,000. This crop needs low investment and bears flowers for 3 to 4 months after plantation.

The process of marigold farming is simple. Farmers have to prepare a nursery for the seeds. After that, deep ploughing is done, and the field is prepared with beds for planting the saplings. After transplantation, immediate irrigation is needed. The plants start flowering within two months; after that, farmers can pluck flowers daily for sale.

Marigold farming has been emerging as a lucrative option for farmers due to low expenses and high profits. Like Ashish, numerous farmers in his region have been looking to venture into the floriculture sector to reap the benefits.
